Paikin's Song

But Alex Leaving Then

But Alex leaving then
Gave Mark no reason
To further defend himself
Against the accusation
Of his wanting Lisa
Despite the reasons all
He wouldn't shouldn't

Though that didn't mean
That the ripples left behind
By his passing through
Weren't long to effect
The two he most
Had so touched
With his leaving thus

Like poor innocent Mark
Soured on a day
He needed the happy focus
He'd expected to have
Following such a good restful sleep

Or for his boss
Who'd long relied on him
And was totally caught off guard
By this sudden quitting
As soon to busy so it'd be

And lest we forget
His lady herself
Hurt most of all
As she'd thought them soon
Or not too after long
To be the marrying kind
Before he'd said his gone

They all of them were
Hurt by him
Not deserving of this
But he swore up and down
It was he had to do
So it wasn't them
And was him alone to blame
